Pier 70 Union Iron Works Machine Shop
The Union Iron Works Machine Shop Building (Building 113/114) was constructed in the late 1800's and is the oldest surviving building in the Pier 70 area. The building initially served as a bolt and rivet shop, erecting shop, and machine shop for the nearby drydocks.
At acquisition, the building was in danger of imminent collapse, and in addition to all new systems and utilities, required a full structural upgrade including more than sixty micropiles, a new interior seismic system, structural slabs, and brick repointing.
Today, the building is occupied by two innovative companies and is home to hundreds of employees.
