Pier 70 Bethlehem Steel Headquarters
Designed as the west coast headquarters of the Bethlehem Steel Corporation, Building 101 is situated in the most prominent location in the shipyard area. Designed by Frederick H. Meyer and completed in 1918, Building 101 was built during a period of exceptionally successful and profitable wartime production. It has ornate interiors, and has featured in numerous films, including Hitchcock’s Vertigo.
When Bethlehem Steel moved out, Building 101 sat vacant for decades, and was extensively vandalized. After a painstaking, multiyear restoration, the building has returned to life as RH’s flagship San Francisco showroom and restaurant.
