Pier 70 Union Iron Works Headquarters - Building 104
Built in 1896 during the Union Iron Works period, this building holds the distinction of being the second oldest surviving structure in the complex. Designed by architect George Percey (1847-1900) in a modified Renaissance Revival style, it stands as a testament to the architectural trends of its time.
George Percey's creation was not only aesthetically significant but also practical for its era. Touted as a "modern, fire-proof" structure, this office and administration building provided a rare example of such construction in San Francisco. Few office buildings from that period have endured, and even fewer can match the rich study in red brick that characterizes this enduring piece of architecture.
